A proposal for a joint European Union-International Monetary Fund support package for Greece may help defuse a weeks-long row between Greece and Germany over how to help lift Europe's weakest economy out of its current crisis.
Privately, Greek officials say that a part-European, part-IMF compromise may help break the deadlock, even as Athens waits for more details on what such a package would entail.
"We are waiting to see how this whole thing plays out between Germany and the EU. For once let the other players argue among themselves. We are taking a wait-and-see stance," said one official.
