Digital Gains at New York Times Fail to Buoy Results

New York Times Co. reported a 12% decline in fourth-quarter profit as continuing weakness in print advertising at the flagship newspaper and poor results at About.com overshadowed growth in digital advertising and subscription revenues at the flagship newspaper.

Times Co. said total advertising revenue at its newspapers, which include the New York Times and Boston Globe, fell 5.3% to $334 million in the fourth quarter from a year earlier.
