Queensland Town Evacuated Amid Fresh Flood Fears

SYDNEY—Floods threatened large areas of Queensland state Monday, reviving fears of a repeat of the deluge that devastated large areas of the region last year, causing the shuttering of mines and an estimated 20 billion Australian dollars (US$21.4 billion) of damage.

Emergency services in Queensland, an area more than twice the size of Texas, have evacuated around 3,000 people from in and around the town of St. George after river levels in the area touched records and higher water levels expected over the next 24 hours.
